As humans, peace is not our natural response to the worries this world can present—and neither is gratitude.
I don't know about you, but when I'm feeling anxious or overwhelmed, my knee-jerk reaction isn't to focus on the rainbows and butterflies or write in my gratitude journal with a glowing smile.
For me, a more natural response lies somewhere between the scenes in Forrest Gump where sweet little Jenny falls to her knees in the middle of the cornfield...
As Christians, we sometimes make having peace look tidy and simple—it's a gift and a promise after all! Yet, I have found more often than not that peace is found in the trenches and is something we have to actively fight for.
Gratitude is our weapon in the fight for the peace that God has promised us.
List three things you are grateful for and verbally thank God for them (and smile!). When negative or worry-filled thoughts present themselves throughout the day, remind yourself of the gratitude list you made earlier.
Father, thank You for the promise of peace You have given us! I thank You that we can live with eternal hope and peace. Help me fix my eyes on You, God, and focus my heart on everything I have to be grateful for! Amen.

Have you ever box-dyed your hair? Okay, let me take that one step further—have you ever box-dyed your hair black, only to randomly decide a year later that you actually want icy white-blonde hair?
I’m asking, because... same.
I won’t get too into the weeds on this one, but all I can say is it was... not to be dramatic, but totally dramatic... an absolute travesty.
It was one of the most expensive (financially and emotionally), and arguably a top-contending choice for one of the most atrocious decisions I have ever made. I still don’t know if I’m fully recovered from the experience, and have sworn off ever box-dying my hair again (ILY ANI LAMBERT—MY HAIR QUEEN!).
For those who have never gone from black to blonde, there’s always an awkward in-between stage where your hair turns a tragic shade of red—nothing against red hair, but on my pink-toned skin, this chemical red made me look less like the Pinterest inspo photo, and more like the "before" photo from your hairstylist’s Instagram.
So, I did what any impatient and overly optimistic person would do—I rushed the process.
